M.C. Robayo's passion for lithography was initiated while receiving her Bachelors of Art at Humboldt State University in extreme Northern California. Robayo then went on to Utah State University and studied under the amazing Mosie Smith. Under his guidance, Robayo mastered the Art of Stone Lithography and completed a MFA (Masters of Fine Art) after finishing a detailed thesis called “Memories of a Culture”.

Robayo's distinctive styles are brought to us from Robayo's own childhood, growing up in Bogotá Colombia.  During a time of get upheaval and conflict in Bogotá due to the danger and the lack of opportunities, Robayo was uprooted at the tender age of 16 away from her country and culture. Robayo then arrived in another tumultuous time for a country experiencing great change. Robayo struggled to combat the discrimination of being a Latino person and an identity in Los Angeles, transferring to Humboldt State University in Northwestern California.

Since starting Lithography in Humboldt State University and has practice the trade for 35 years. What is especially unique about the prints is the arduous process in which they are developed. Every print Robayo has made is hand printed with an old style lithographic printing press.  Drawing, etching, inking the stone before placing each piece of paper and repeating the process for each color requires meticulous planning. Robayo is one of very few in the world to keep this method alive and does not use any electronics during the actually making of the print, it is the same process used for hundreds of years. Due to this, Robayo has received awards in competition throughout the West Coast and has displayed in numerous galleries. Have works in private collection in the United States, Europe and South America. I hope you enjoy the colorful and unique work as the many other owners of Robayo's work.
